Umar’s project If you no longer have a family, make your own in clay is based on a Sudanese proverb stating that a clay version of a person is better than the flesh and blood version that hurt you. Depicting people who you no longer want or need in your life through a lump of clay is a way of processing emotion, finding an outlet for these feelings. Having rid himself of his own traitors, Umar has developed the project into workshops in which participants are invited to create their own figures of frustration out of clay.
Join the artist and make your own figures, which will be installed as part of the triennial exhibition!
