Ningyō. Japanese dolls and kimonos

February 6 - March 6 2016

Japanese dolls are an important part of Japanese cultural history, and represent an exquisite craft tradition. The dolls are associated with religious festivals, theatre and various aspects of Japanese everyday life. They are made from different materials, ranging from very expensive to more humble ones, such as paper. The dolls are exhibited in collaboration with the Japan Foundation and the Embassy of Japan in Norway, along with a selection of kimonos from the museum’s collections.
