Drinking coffee or tea with another person usually also involves a good conversation. The beverage becomes an alibi for being social; inviting someone over for coffee has more to do with cultivating a relationship than with quenching thirst. When the conversation ends – maybe after a refill – you’re at the bottom of the cup. There, you can ‘read’ the coffee grounds, if you’re that type, or you can study the beautiful details that suddenly appear. Here you can see a selection of cups from the museum’s collection that not only have glazed motifs on the exterior, but are also decorated on the base of the interior. A surprising flower, bird or miniature landscape makes the coffee experience even richer.
