SOLANGE is an art project that has already been realised more than 30 times, in eight different countries spread across three continents. For every instalment, large lettering in bright pink tuille is hand-embroidered onto scaffolding nets, which are hung on façades of centrally located buildings.

SOLANGE means “as long as” in German. Each SOLANGE net features a sentence starting with, “As long as …”, and ending with, “… I will be a feminist”. People from the local area where the net will be hung are invited to submit suggestions for sentences. These are then processed by the artist and her team, and the sentence is sewn in the local language. For the Trondheim installation, more than 100 sentences were submitted, and the chosen sentence will be displayed at the museum’s façade in Munkegata from 2 April until 14 September.

SOLANGE aims to spread awareness of social power structures and sexism in our society. This is also reflected in the nets themselves, which create a tension between the gendered associations to sewing, which has traditionally been the domain of women, and the building site, predominantly associated with men.
